Often applying many layers of semi-transparent glazes, John paints moody and evocative paintings. His art is informed by his work in architecture and opera stage design, and by 3 years formal drawing, composition and painting study with artist Belinda Wilson.
John’s studio is on the edge of the bush, contemplating the constantly changing light of the sea and the Motukawao islands. He brings to his art fascination with depths of transparency, literal and figurative “shape of the space between”, and an awareness that whoever we are, whatever our country or culture, we share a common ancestral family and a common place of origin.
> John Eaglen will be set up with his paints in Hauraki House Gallery in Coromandel Township during the 2016 Open Studio event
